Tuesday Night Worlds – “Hot Laps”
- 22-40 Miles; 22+ mph pace
- Most Tuesdays March – July from St. Paul’s
- Leaves 6pm from the church (or the Fire Station on Curtis a bit later).
If you catch this ride from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, it starts as a conversational commute out to the Curtis Road Fire Station (#33 for the record), but make no mistake, this is Bellingham’s fastest ride. You should be confident in your bike handling in a bunch before you even think about his one. And, definitely be prepared to be dropped.
I’ve shown the ride on the map with three laps, but the distance builds up as the season goes on. As with all rides in Bellingham, everybody is nice and welcoming, but the stakes are higher with the speed involved and it can get a bit more intense. After rolling out Marine Drive, the group collects at the fire station and sets the number of laps. Usually, the pace starts out relatively easy and builds up each lap. By the final laps, the pace is blistering. Don’t worry if you get dropped, everyone meets back up at the fire station and rolls back to town together.
Do be aware, it can be a bit hit or miss whether enough people show up to make the ride interesting. In August, it transforms into the Tuesday Night Throwdown which usually takes a similar track to the Rabbit (only faster and no-drop).
