Lummi Shore

  • 29 Miles
  • Pretty and flat

This is a fast, flat out and back with a loop out around Gooseberry Point. Outside of Birch Bay, Lummi Shore Drive is the only place you can ride right along the water in Whatcom County (more or less). The views on a clear day across the bay with the islands to the south and Mt. Baker out east are pretty fantastic.

Starting from downtown, you just head on out Marine Drive until you hit the Haxton Way. There’s no shoulder for much or Marine Drive, but I’ve ridden it a million times without issue. Haxton can have some traffic, especially when people are rushing to get the Lummi Island ferry, but the shoulder is enormous with a nice rumble strip to remind people to put down there phones. The section along Lummi Shore looks like this:

Not bad…

This is also the only ride I’ve done in Bellingham where I’ve had issues with dogs, so be aware of that. Otherwise its low-traffic, about as flat as it gets around here and gorgeous.
